Whirlpool Washer - LSQ9010LW0 - Balky cycle/water level issues

Recommended Posts

My washer is getting a bit balky and doesn't seem to be following load size settings. Extra Small and Small put way too much water in there, sometimes it runs and sometimes it doesn't. On Super Plus water level, it sometimes runs fine and sometimes fills and sits there.

I gather the load size setting (extra small, small, medium, etc.) isn't electrical and I only see one make and break electrical contact (water level switch) on the tech sheet schematic. So - 2 questions

How does it determine water level?

Is the load size selector messed up, or the water level switch intermittent - or both? Or something else?

Assume you have parts and maybe a video - I can probably get to the load size selector on the control panel, dunno where the water level switch is.

Thanks,

Bill Hammer

Open the console and find the rubber tube connecting to the pressure switch. Disconnect it from the pressure switch and blow real hard towards the tub to remove any gookus that may have built up inside. If that corrects the problem I would recommend you use less soap and run washing machine cleaner thru it to prevent reoccurrence. If no fixy then follow the tube to tub and make sure it is clean I would even disconnect it and make sure it does not have any holes in it by capping off one end with your finger and blowing into it. If everything is clean and hole free I would make sure the water valves are shutting off when the machine turns off. If they stay on after power has been removed then you will need a new water valve. If everything checks good I would replace the pressure switch.

I would add, especially if the "gookus" is blocking the level pressure switch hose, cease using liquid detergent as it creates a residue that clogs hoses, eats metal, and ruinates fine older machines, like yours. Powder is best, and any scientist can confirm that solids are always more dense than liquids, so it is more bang for your buck despite what any marketing may claim. Most washing machine cleaners contain bleach and accelerate any corrosion started by the liquid detergent, i'd skip that, as using powder will slowly strip remaining residue while you wash...
