This washing machine makes a loud noise when spinning and then stops spinning.   When I lay it on its side the center pulley turns in both directions and the appropriate parts turn (drum & agitator).  Doesn't seem to require an inappropriate amount of force.   Which bearing is most likely the culprit?  worth fixing?

Posted

depends on the tone of the noise,  all of them make a squealing sound when they stop.

Could be a defective drain pump bearing - jamming up -

Pump was my first indication because the pulley seemed very loose.  After looking at the thrust bearing and the overall condition, I am going to try a new pump.

Thanks.

New pump arrived today.  Problem solved.  Thanks.  I feared a major disassembling project.
