My dryer runs for a short time, 3 - 4 minutes.  Shortly after the gas heat comes on, the dryer stops running.  Even with no heat, the dryer stops after 3-4 minutes.

On reading the error codes, I have had mixed results.  the last and best results are as follows:

E68 is in the small window

the Start LED flashes 8 times

the 4 LEDs on the right, flash & beep 6 times

the less dry & damp flash 2 times, then the damp flashes 2 times

I am able to get into the function tests, everything seems ok.

thank you!

E68 is an error code for a stuck button.  If none of the buttons are actually stuck you might have a bad control board.

Thank you David,

I went ahead and called Sears repair before I saw your answer.  they think it is a bad control board also.  I ordered the one you suggested.  Thanks

the repair tech said if the machine comes on by itself, that is also an indication of a bad board.  Which mine was doing.  The erroneous error code was also an indication of a defective board.

Would a surge protector help prevent the board failures?

Thanks,

Carl

A surge protector might help, but those boards fail regularly for causes unrelated to power surges.

Hello David,

I got the new board and got it installed but the dial button seems to be 90 degrees off.  When the led display shows 15 , the dial is not at 15 minutes.  the dial is at the bulky setting.  The shaft that inserts into the board is keyed so that it can only go in one way and come out the same spot.  And this leaves the switch inside the board in the same position everytime the shaft is removed and inserted.  And the dial is keyed also, so it lines up properly with the switch in the board.  I don't see a way to rotate the dial 90 degrees.  The old switch in the board is in the same position as the new switch, down inside the board.

Thanks,

Carl

update:  i finally figured out that I need to rotate the switch inside to match my dial. I found a small metal brush that would go inside the hole, then flatten the end a bit so that it would engage the switch below.  It took several times, but I was able to get the bottom switch aligned properly.  On my machine, normal is the 12 o'clock position.
