Frigidaire GLWS1349AS1 Washer Spewing Smoke & Clothes Are Sopping Wet

Frigidaire washing machine GLWS1349AS1 started spewing white smoke.  I replaced the belt as the old one was frayed.  That didn’t stop the white smoke.  Furthermore, the clothes at the end of the spin cycle were sopping wet.  So, I tore the machine down to replace the spin bearing and tub seal assembly with new parts thinking an old bearing might be the culprit causing excessive friction and preventing the tub to spin properly.  Reassembled machine and put it through its paces without clothes in the tub and it seemed okay.  Put clothes into the tub and ran it again and the white smoke billowed out sometime around the Rinse / Spin cycle.  Clothes still drenched.  Washing machine is about fifteen years old.  I fear the transmission is shot.  Hoping it’s not.  Any suggestions?

Examine the bearing at the base of the transmission for signs of corrosion or wear.  This can occur as a result of a slight tub seal leak and may cause your symptoms as well as excessive noise during spin.
