Just to clarify, how do you know that your "thermostat" is fine?

The element should give a reading if you measure it with a meter set on ohms; when they fail, most commonly they read "open". Are you saying it's reading a dead short? If it does, the reason should be readily apparent by looking at the element.

Does it heat when you select air dry? Check continuity between element and ground, you should not have continuity to ground. if you do replace element. Loose spade connectors can cause a thermal fuse to blow make sure they are tight on the thermal fuse. If not replace the connectors. The drum should turn freely. If it is restricted then it will cause the dryer to over heat because it cannot move air properly. So make sure the idler pulleys and drum rollers turn and the felt seals are intact. Have you tried it with the duct disconnected? I know you said the ducts are clean but if everything checks out up to this point I would disconnect the duct and see if it blows the thermal fuse.

Is this a model with the horizontal blower fan? Ive seen the pulley fall off the blower pulley AND the motor pulley, plus the serpentine fan belt can flop right off with little provocation as well... There is an outlet thermal fuse mounted on the horizontal blower housing and a Hi-limit on the element housing about 10 inches from the thermal fuse... CLEAN the exhaust from stem to stern sailor!

My heating element tests at o ohms is that good? The thermal cut off reads infinite can a thermal cut off cause the thermal fuse to blow and the dryer hot?

Posted

NO. The thermal cut-out should have continuity- infinite resistance means there is not continuity. If the dryer gets hot, none of those parts are broken. CLEAN THE EXHAUST.

All vents and exhaust are clear and cleaned I've been hearing other techs say test the element to ground if my meter shows in I my element is faulty correct?

If heater is not grounded check your heater relay for continuity, with the dryer off and unplugged there should be none, if there is you need a new ccu
