Kenmore 600 Series Washer 110.27612600

My top loader washer will spin only sometimes. When it does not, I can usually turn the inner tub by hand clockwise until it stops, seemingly "engaging" the drive. This seems to go better if I lift and turn the tub and is less successful with heavier loads sitting in the tub.

When I inspected the clutch, I was able to turn the motor by hand, leading me to believe the coupling was in good condition. To my untrained eye and hands, the brake and pads appeared to be in good order as did the plastic brake cam driver.

I considered this might be a problem with something stuck between the tubs, but I haven't checked yet. Does this sound like a clutch or a transmission problem? The next time I open up my washer, for what should I be looking?

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like the clutch

Lifting the tub and it makes it work and heavier loads not, points to bad clutch as sh2sh2 says and/or a stripped out basket drive block letting the spin basket slide down the basket drive shaft and dragging bottom of spin basket on outer tub.

Thank you both for the information. I wasn't sure how lifting the tub related to the clutch, but I'll trust your direction. I really appreciate it. The next time I open it up, I'll inspect the basket drive block.
