Whirlpool LSB6200PQ0 makes banging noise when slowing down

Recommended Posts

We have a Whirlpool LSB6200PQ0 Washer which is making a banging noise when it slows down after spinning.  I think it's while the tubis stopping or braking.  Seems to be OK when full and washing.  Unit is my parents and I have not had much time with it.

Hoping someone can help me diagnose the noise a bit better.

Thanks.. Ranger Z

Sounds like the drive block is stripped out where it engages the basket drive.

Part number: AP6008836

Check the drive block that the inner tube mounts to, if that is good check the plastic actuator on the bottom of the basket drive. In my opinion those are the most likely things.

Thank you for your replies.

@evaapliance, can you be more specific regarding the "plastic actuator".  I am not finding something with this name here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/agitator-basket-tub-parts-for-whirlpool-lsb6200pq0.html

Are you referring to item 8, "washer" http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-washer-agitator-wp8543666-ap6013102.html, which does not look like the item in the related videos.  The video shows a rectangular object.

There appears to be a gasket below the nut, but it looks like another level of complexity to replace this.  Is this or anything else worth inspecting\replacing while its apart?

part # 389140 block, and the plastic basket drive actuator comes in a clutch kit # 285785 .   also it can be the brake grabbing when it stops, I forgot to say that earlier . if that is what is happening , the machine will jerk sideways when it stops.   not much preventive maintenance on these,

Terminology is maybe an issue.  This kit has a "Brake Cam" in it.  It does not reference the 389140 block as part of it.

To be clear, the part you are referring to goes in from the bottom and requires the motor to come out.

The drive block goes in from the top and requires the cabinet to be removed.

Can you please include links if it's otherwise?

Thanks again.

the brake cam will be the part I was talking about, it is the least likely problem of the  3  things I spoke of.  the block requires you to take the cabinet off and get the inner tub out .  just  utube how to tear down a whirlpool direct drive washer . there are bunches of videos on how to do that.
