Refrigerator was purchased new in 2002 and works perfectly except the ice maker  dumps cubes intermittently. Several times cubes have been formed and are in process of being ejected but 'teeth's' rotation stops short of dumping cubes into bin. Other times nudging the bin level sensor arm encourages ice maker to complete cycle and dump cubes. Water fill and freezing after dump is fine.

Probably time for a new ice maker or is there another option?

If the unit is not making a full rotation during cycling, I would replace it. If the main drive gear has a cracked holding pin, you risk having the unit overfill or get stuck in "heat release." You can get a new icemaker for cheaper if you transfer the wire harness, feeler arm, and front plastic cover... I use part # W10190965. It only takes three screws to remove the existing ice maker- and when you remove it, inspect the ice mold for any flaking of the teflon coating, as flaking means you need a replacement as well...
