Have this frig for about 10 years now.  It has problems on and off.  I changed the heater twice.   Didn’t have time to check on it.

It happened the ice on the icecube bin became a big chunk of ice and broke my parts WR17X11705 ice dispenser auger.

Now my ice cream is soft and melting…L

Is the compressor running?

Posted

Compressor and fan are both running at back of frig but very hot.

Opened the back wall of frig, bottom half was frosted and upper 1/2 was wet.  Heater was fine with clear.  Presuming bi metal ok too.

Tested both freezer thermisters.  Found out the one wire of the upper thermister had rusted.  It was changed about 2 years ago.  I took it out and dipped it in ice water and ready was 15.7k ohms.  I guess its fine.  I cut the degraded wire about 4 inches in and still degraded by rust but was conductable. I guess need a new one sooner or later but just reconnected it to test.

After 3 hours the frost went up to 3/4 of the evaporator.  The compressor and fan at back is still on while i am writing.

I am going to close the back wall of the freezer and leave it overnight and check it tomorrow.

I would definitely change the thermistor, then clean the condenser coil as best you can to help dissipate the heat load. When you change the thermistor, put some pure silicone grease into the back of the wire nut to keep moisture and corrosion out of there! This silicone works great on sticky gaskets too...

Compressor continue turn on.  ?????? Dont know when it will stop... Maybe till I change the thermistor or bi Metal...

Frig at 40 degrees F

Freezer at 4-8 degrees F.

that grease is not food grade. Most likly it contains arsenic and should not be used in a refrigerator. I reccommend a food grade silicone sealant iand crimp on bell connectors for any connectors inside the refrigerator. The compressor should run till it reaches what ever temp you have it set to. Normally till the freezer is at 0. If your condensor is clean and the evaporator is not frosting evenly from top to bottom then that would indicate a sealed system issue. Normally low refrigerant due to a leak. I would not put any money into a unit that is leaking refrigerant.

Dow Corning 111 Valve Lubricant and Sealant can be used as a lubricant for rubber and plastic O-rings, water softener and faucet valves, valve stems for potable water, aircraft vacuum systems, electronic and ignition systems, among others. It can be used as a sealant in applications such as vacuum and pressure systems, equipment subject to washing and harsh environments, electrical service entrances and underground connections, and transformer gaskets and equipment enclosures.

I eat this stuff all the time and I'm fine...:spacecraft:

I cleaned the compressor in the back but still not fully cleaned.  it still have some dirt sticking on probably due to oil from my stove from cooking got stuck in it.  At least I cleaned with a hose and all the dust been off now.

The compressor is off sometimes now.  Its much more cooler than before in the back compares to hot floor tiles when I stepped on last week.

If I predict it correctly, I believe the thermistor was broken caused the compressor didnt turn off and over heated.  The heat made the top part of the evaporator hot.  Now the thermister is fixed then back to normal.

-cleaning the condenser coils allows the evaporator to get colder because you are dissipating the collected heat more readily... a failing thermistor can let the freezer temp rise higher than normal between cycles, thusly, increasing the heat load during the next cooling cycle.

Glad to hear that ice cream is going to make it!

your answer is here , its a system fault
