Amana range model AGS730L. The oven light went out. I must have never replaced it since buying the house 15 years ago. The light cover (aka lens) is stuck. First thing is to get a better grip on it, so I need to remove the oven door. That's where *I'm* stuck.

I downloaded the manual from Amana, no problem. It says "open the door to the first stop, grasp the door firmly on each side and lift it upward off the hinges". I've tried that over and over and it doesn't budge. I'm reluctant to pull any harder, as it doesn't feel just stuck, but feels like the instructions are wrong -- metallic sound when I pull up on it. But OTOH the door has probably never been taken off before.

Any advice?

Edward

From the looks of the replacement hinge, it should slide off. Open the door slightly ( until the door will clear the front of the machine) then, grasp it on either side about even with the handle, but do not try to lift it by the handle. Once you have your hands firmly gripping the door- lift with your legs and "wiggle" the door from side to side at the same time- it should come off. Just remember, getting it back on will be harder...

Thanks. At least I'm not missing something dumb. I wiggled and jiggled and higgled and piggled ... I even slid a screwdriver in beside the hinges to make sure they were loose in the door. (Seem to be.) The door does move a bit on the hinge when I tug before that solid stop. Maybe it's just glued to the hinge from 15+ years of use while never being removed.

HOWEVER -- I tried again to remove the light lens, and this time it came off! Since that was my original problem -- I just wanted to get the door off so I could get a better grip on the lens -- my problem is solved. I have a brightly lit oven again. Maybe it'll be another twenty years before I need to take the door off. I may well be dead by then.
