maytag icemaker stopped working..

I have a maytag side by side fridge with the automatic icemaker that dispenses ice and water through the door. Model psd262lhew. The icemaker quit working. it doesnt do anything at all, doesnt fill the tray with water and the tray doesnt rotate do try and drop the ice (that isnt there).. i see its either the ice maker itself OR the water valve on the back. I dont want to just throw money at parts, i would rather have a good idea which one is the culprit before buying the part. I will install it myself. Anyone work on these enough to take a good educated guess at which one usually fails with what ive described?

Thanks

1st thing to do is to confirm your freezer temperature is cold as it should be ,  you need to be around 0 to 5 degrees and must be below 15 degrees for the ice maker to cycle.

If it is cold enough then the next step would be to make sure the fill tube is not frozen solid and if  it is getting power to the ice maker. Hold the door switch in while you check voltage. If you got 120vac to the ice maker then pop the white cover off the front of the ice maker and put a wire into the holes t and h that should force it to cycle. If it cycles and fills or doesn't cycle at all then replace the ice maker. If no water enters unit and 120vac is sent to the water valve and your sure the water line to the ice maker is not frozen then replace the valve. I reccommend googling how to cycle a whirlpool ice maker and watch some videos so that you know your doing it right.

Ok, I jumpered  T and H and it did absolutely nothing. Did it several times and still nothing. Tried it one more time and this time i jiggled the big white gear and it started working! I pulled out the jumper wire and it kept working..The water valve solenoid kicked in and filled the tray. Still working right now but its only been a few minutes so we will see. So if it does quit again, wouldnt it be safe to say its the ice maker itself and NOT the fill valve solenoid since it worked.?

Assuming the temps are down to between 0 and 5 degrees Freedom units, you have confirmed to have a bad icemaker unit.Part number: AP4135008

Part number: AP4135008

I left the square front cover off so that big timing wheel is exposed. I keep checking every so often. It has the ice half way up and looks like it stopped. I reached in and gave that timing wheel a jiggle and it started moving again. Checked again a while later and it had stopped again so i gave the wheel another jiggle and it started moving again..When i am doing this, obviously i have to hold the freezer door button closed.. Wonder why it works for a few minutes when i juggle it every time then stops?

most likly the contacts are corroded. If you remove the 4 screws you can open it up and look but the solution will still be a new ice maker.

well, its still working! Its been making ice all by itself all day! Weird..Maybe it was just stuck and when i jiggled that timer wheel it freed it all up..?

Not sure why what i posted above has a line through it...But i was saying its still working fine! Its been making ice all day all by itself. I dont know what the deal is, but maybe it was just stuck for some reason and when i jiggled that timer wheel it got things going again..?

As the others have said, you will need to replace your ice maker. Sorry !!

I will when it quits again, but it is still working fine for some reason. I got up this morning and its still going strong. It has now filled up the bucket.
