Central Air Duct ice up

Just turned on my central AC for few days ago and found out its not that cold.  I went to the compressor outside and the hose where there is an insulator surrounding it has a 1/4 inch ICE around.  Its getting hot and my 3 kids is suffering.  Can anyone give me any directions?

Check your air filter. A dirty restricted filter will cause the system to ice up.

Ditto the dirty filter. Also, turn the system to fan only, make it stop trying to cool the house and just run the indoor fan full time. There is ice on the indoor coil also and it needs to thaw before it will move any air. It can take several hours for it to thaw, think at least 3 or 4.

If its not the filters the indoor fan has failed,or some other air flow issue,  or the refrigerant level is low. Iced line set, the copper pipes, is caused by low refrigerant level or air flow issues.

I changed my air filter about end of last season.  I used the AC a little on June.  The old filter was not that dirty.  After I changed it the wind flow was noticeable stronger than before.  I turned on the fan on the central AC yesterday night for a whole night and set my window AC to 72 degree in the attic to help cooling.  The ice was gone and I just turned on my AC this morning and hopefully it will work.

it got ice again yesterday...  Is that means I have to get someone to put more freon in? This is the first time this is happening like this.

Low charge will cause ice up. Most likely leak at A coil
