issue with whirlpool cabrio washer -wtw5640xw0 . can`t get into standby to enter error code test mode-the left right left deal. the washer won`t start. it clicks and tries to do a wash cycle but keeps canceling it out. I tried replacing cheap parts first. the lid start switch -shifter or actuator- capacitor . I tried following the service tech guide and using a hand held digital meter. I can`t get past the 1st two steps. I`m thinking control board . I`d feel better if I could get this unit to self test and register some error codes. as mentioned earlier can`t get it in self test modes. I did bench test the motor with a cheater power cord - I had to help it start since no capacitor was used . it checked out. any help here?

Standby mode is when the machine control is powered off (but plugged in) and none of the LED's are lit... The knob pattern is also meant to be done fairly quickly, with fluidity. If you absolutely cannot get into diagnostics, replace the main board. But be sure to test the parts fully before replacing any, and this model also needs to have a calibration cycle run after replacing things, (particularly the shift actuator).

Job one is getting this thing into test mode and calibrating it, then run an auto-diagnostic cycle. If all the parts will run in test mode, but not in a normal cycle, THEN consider the main control board.

Replacing parts before doing enough testing is adding more variables into your situation...!
