Constantly Running Evaporator/Freezer Fan

Good morning and thanks for reading!

HelpSmiling face with smiling eyes I'm actually having two issues with my Maytag bottom mount freezer that I believe is related to the recent change out of the jazz board. I have a constantly running evaporator/freezer fan when I go into service test number 3. It just never ever ever shuts off and constantly runs. The other odd thing, that I believe to be related, is that when I go into program entry mode to just check the software version, the Jazz board displays the correct program code of 1 2 (according to what's on the serial plate). When I go into service entry mode the software version should display for three seconds. It does display for three seconds and it shows version 1 4. If I go back into the program entry mode, it still shows 1 2.

Does anyone have any idea as to what the issue can be? I recently replaced the jazz board as I was having issues with the refrigerator being warm well the freezer was cold. Everything else on the Jazz board seems to be fine.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to read my question!!

And I apologize for not including the model number in the title (there seems to be no way of editing it).  The model number is Maytag model #MFF2558VEMO

Thanks!

Software version and program code are two separate things. Program code advises  your board of the fridge's features,  size etc.  Software version is exactly that... Version of software.   Think of it this way,  one number is software version,  the other is hardware version.

Did you check your evaporator's frost pattern?

Also, I have found that if you had a complete defrost failure before replacing the board (which would explain your freezer cold, but fridge warm situation), you may have to run several successive "forced defrost" cycles to get the heater to break through the blockage- I usually remove the evaporator cover to help give the defrost system a boost by melting a path up the middle of the coil. (you can follow Durham's advice and look at the frost pattern while you're in there)

Hello @Hiroshi and @durhamappliance

When I replaced the jazz board this time, I made sure to take off the rear panel of the freezer and defrost everything there to give the fridge a great start.I actually had residual ice as an issue several years ago when I first made acquaintance with a Jazz Board (ha ha!) but not this time!

As of right now, the service tests that I have done are 1 - 6 and are here:

1) Defrost Thermostat and circuit test - S for short (which I believe to be correct)

2) Compressor Test/condenser fan - on and off correctly by sound

3) Evap/Freezer fan test - on and off correctly by sound

4) Fresh food thermistor test - P for pass

5) Freezer Thermistor test - P for pass

6) Open Damper Test - Opens and closes correctly

(didn't do number 7 and 8)

---BUT the evaporator/freezer fan (I believe from the specific sound that it makes) is constantly running.  This fridge NEVER used to make a peep and now 98% of the time, a fan is running.  The sound is evaporator/freezer fan makes a different sound than the evap/freezer fan and I would bet the farm that it is the evap/freezer fan.

Any further thoughts...I am open to trying ANYTHING!

****CORRECTED Oops!~***

The sound that the evaporator/freezer fan makes is a different sound than the compressor/condenser fan and I would bet the farm that it is the evap/freezer fan.

The only other thing that might be a piece of the puzzle is that the air vent grille in the freezer was difficult to take off when I was manually defrosting the coils after replacing the Jazz board.  I broke the grille enough getting it off that I needed to buy another one and installed it.  The only thing is that the new one purchased would not fit the extra air diverter (or whatever it is called) as seen in the pictures.  SOOO, my freezer only has the air vent grille but not the diverter.  Does that make the freezer more efficient at pushing cold air into the fridge??  Could that be the reason that the fan is constantly running that the entire fridge air handling is inefficient??  Just grasping at straws thinking of different ideas.

Thanks again for reading!~

No,  that is used to divert air to the icemaker.

Forgive me if I missed it but I don't see any temperature readings?

Hello!  Thinking that I might be just chasing zebras on this one....the freezer is at -2 and the fridge is at 38. Those temps should be reasonable and I guess the question is... what percentage of the time should the evap fan be running??

On a majority of designs, it will run whenever the condenser and compressor are on. Clean the condenser coils beneath the fridge... Part number: 5303318693

Part number: 5303318693  this brush + a vacuum cleaner = happy coils and more efficient operation
