Whirlpool frig M: GI7FVCXWQ00 cooling issue

Recommended Posts

I have a Whirlpool French Door Refrigerator  model GI7FVCXWQ00 that isn't cooling well in the frig section. The freezer is 0 or less but the frig and ice compartment are lacking. Frig section is upper 40s and lower 50s. The ice maker compartment and ice bin are roughly 22 degrees last i checked. But I do know that sometimes water drips from the dispenser flap which tells me it's getting warmer that 22 sometimes. I found how to get into diagnostics mode and checked all that i could. Looks like all the thermistors pass and the frig compartment dampers opens and closes fine. I had a repair man come out and he put in a main control board and a frig compartment thermistor. Nothing has changed... help!

Sounds like you have a blockage in one of the air ducts... the fan in the freezer should be supplying 0 degree air to the ice compartment, and the excess from that should exit into the fridge via slots on the side of the "cooling tower" that acts as the tunnel for the air to be directed at the icemaker section. If any of the airways are blocked, either the supply or return- the poor airflow will result in a warm fridge. So, if the freezer fan is obviously running, our next step is to find the blockage... Is the freezer fan blowing well and strong?

ty for the reply so quick! Freezer fan does seem to be blowing great. Sometimes I can feel good cold air flow coming from the vent on the side of the ice compartment. Sometimes the damper is shut and no air is coming out even when my temps are warmer than they should be... that link to a job aid says i don't have access

What are you measuring the temps in the machine with? I always use a food/meat thermometer and put it in the jelly, air temps aren't as reliable and informative as food temps in a lot of cases...

infrared thermometer

If you feel air flowing into the fridge section with the freezer door open, but it cuts off the instant you close the freezer door, definite air blockage...
