Hello,

Trying to help son with a Whirlpool dishwasher not working.  

When you power it on (after shutting off breaker for a bit) the "time remaining" display shows 2 dashes (--) and the Glass Express light blinks.  

If you wait a while or push any button the Normal light blinks alternately with the glass express light.  Nothing else happens.  

No other key-presses make anything change.  We have tried to invoke the service diagnostic cycle using the instructions in the kick panel but no luck.

I'm a service technician, just in another field, so I should be able to follow suggestions if this sequence rings a bell for something common.  I saw other posts here about failed key panel but not with the same code I'm seeing.

You're seeing signs of a typical membrane keypad failure.  A fast flashing LED above a keypad is the usual indications of a stuck key or shorted traces on the membrane traces.

Yours is a stainless steel which I believe uses the black console:

Part number: WP3385741

Or if you think white matches your kitchen better you could replace it
with the white console:
