During the spin cycle I heard a whining noise and then the washer would not spin.  The motor comes on, but the drum doesnt turn.  Checked the belt and it is ok.  What I did see what what looks like a piece of thick gasket wedged in the transmission area.

How can I fix this?  It is an OLD washer.  Broke as broke and cannot buy a new one. :(

That is one of your damper pads. They need replacing, but isn't the cause of your no spin. Try taking the belts off and turning the pulley by hand. One way should be wash the other spin. If you can't turn it... it could mean a transmission problem... locked up tub bearing... or something stuck between the tubs preventing the tub from moving.

Does there appear to be any leakage coming from the black grommet where the trans goes up into the wash tub? Any drip marks running down onto the transmission or spray pattern about shin-high around the inside of the cabinet?? Leaks cause these damper pads to fail AND can corrode the spin tube and impede spin. Make sure the motor pivots easily too!
