My Whirlpool Washer GSQ9611KS2 skips the water loading and goes straight to washing (agitating). 

possible control knob issue?

Most likely cause is the pressure switch. Open up the control panel and you will see a round plastic device with a clear tube hooked onto it. Pull the tube loose and blow thru it into the tub to clear out any trash that may be inside reconnect tube and see if it will fill. The pressure switch tells the washer how much water is in the tub.  Part number: W10335056

and if that is the problem:  a black wad in the pressure tube... STOP USING LIQUID DETERGENT!  Powdered Detergent does not leave the nasty residue that causes these failures

ok, will try clearing out the tube, if that doesn't work, then will replace the switch. I will pass that "powder over liquid" info to the wife.
