Friend has a 3 year old roper washer, RTW4440vq2 model - she said there had been a whine from the timer, and some selections not wanting to work. She called a repair person, but the bill was too high, she threw away the receipt, and just paid his service call. Would this necessarily be the timer, and why would a timer go out so soon?  Is the Roper brand no longer the quality brand it used to be? She does not abuse her appliances. I thought a timer would only go out if turned backwards, or really roughly used. I am wondering if this is worth repairing, or if a new timer from repair clinic would be of better quality, if this is the problem -

Yes repair it , no the quality is just as bad , those are the worst timers ever ,  but the rest of the washer is sooooooo much better than what you will buy today, with the exception of speed queen .  Maybe you will be a little luckier with the new one . So in a nutshell my opinion is unless you want,or can buy a $849  speed queen model # awn432sp, fix the roper machine at any cost !

If it will wash on NORMAL, tell her to ride that pony until it won't wash anymore, buy the timer and have it standing at the ready, but I would recommend milking all the cycles you can out of the timer you have...
