freezer no longer freezing, had large amount of frost on top shelf and middle shelves food had pretty much thawed, top and bottom seemed still frozen;  manually defrosted and let set overnight.  I turned it back on the next day and went to work tenhours later the thermometer showed fifty degrees.  Door seal seems good and unit is level.  The condenser coils are in the walls so apparently cleaning these are not in play.  I did notice that that top shelf is getting heavily frosted in the back adjacent to some kind of lead or probe.  I looked underneath and it is relatively clean.  The compressor seems very warm to the touch.  I suspected unit low on refrigerant but there seems to be no port to charge nor even a line large enough to add a saddle.  Admittedly, I know very little about such things.  Any ideas or suggestions would be welcomed

If you are sure the compressor is on all the time, sounds like new freezer time. Sorry !

That "Lead" or "Probe" is the cap tube that feeds the evaporator with freon/R134A, the top shelf is the first entry pass of the evaporator.

The just frosting first shelf and such warm temps/temps warming up before defrost all point to low on coolant, so a leak somewhere.  Bad news as EvaAppliance says, "sounds like new freezer time. Sorry !".

agree, but it could also be a restriction........uh oh, like I'm grounded.....or "no soup for you"......but if it it is a restriction, it's only partial, but I would have to lean toward master BAR and go with a leak and being low on refrigerant.  That's my best guess with the info you provided.
