MDG7600AWW matag dryer wont heat, I don't hear any clicking on the gas unit. I have replaced the 2 coils

http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Gas-Valve-Solenoid/3479

this has worked in the past. no blockage just no heat.

could it be the igniter? thermocouple if it has one? seems like the gas wont turn on so the igniter can light it.

Thanks

If you replaced the coils and don't hear the classic clicking noise of one of the coils energizing on a Maytag gas dryer, and the ignitor does't glow then I would lean toward the flame sensor being the most likely problem. Even with a bad ignitor you'll still hear the main coil engergize and hear the click. It could also be the timer, a bad wire or some other problem but I'd be leaning toward a bad flame sensor as my #1 go to source of the problem They don't go bad all that often but they do go bad. There's only two styles that I know of unless they've redesigned some of the newest models, the Whirlpool style and GE style, and every tech should have both on their trucks. Yours would be the Whirlpool style, part #WP338906.

Also wanted to add.....the Maytag dryers also have a white bullet type thermal fuse but I've never seen one go bad, but there's always a first time. And, your dryer may have a metal type disc hi limit thermostat that sits on top of the flame cone, and some of these are actually thermal fuses also, which when blown, you need to replace them because they don't reset, and the dryer won't heat. If that were the case then the cause of the problem would be an airflow issue.....clogged lint filter or vent. I don't know if you have one of these or not, but if it's not the flame sensor that's the source of your problem then I'd go in that direction next.

I would check that thermal fuse on the blower housing, when you get it going check for proper operating thermostat  cycling .  May be fine, sometimes those white thermals blow just from age.

In my experience I've only found that to be true with the Whirlpool style dryers......whether it's the classic lint filter on the top right side of the dryer with the blower housing in the back or the filter in front on the bottom side of the front panel under the door. In either of those cases I'd recommend replacing both the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat, and making sure you're lint filter and venting are not restricted. But yeah, on the Whirlpool style dryers the thermal fuses can, and do just go out with age, and I'm guessing do blow sometimes with a buildup of soap residue and other crap that clings to it and doesn't allow it to dissipate heat, but I've never personally seen a bad one yet on a real Maytag or Magic Chef style dryer, but it is possible. I've stocked one one on my truck for almost 20 years and haven't used it yet........hey....it may have gone bad just from all the travel miles and bumps and bruises and weather its gone through. It's been abused.....wow, that's means I've also been abused.........Oh nooooooo,  anyway, your mileage may vary..........But, I'll go with my original diagnosis.......whatever I said.......I don't want to rethink stuff....especially on a Saturday night.....and after I've already had a beer or three........ plus I did three refrigerator system jobs today........two compressor jobs and one something or whatever it was....I dunno.....I just remember it was another system job.........yeah I know, cry me a freaking river.....LMAO.....

Anyway.....I hope ya'll have tomorrow off......or at least don't work too hard. Happy beer day everyone........

I just remembered......the Maytag and/or Magic Chef style dryers have the same style thermal fuse but the actual whole part is round, but it still has the same "bullet" looking thermal fuse in the middle. The front door lint filter Whirlpool style dryer also has a round style thermal fuse mounted on top the blower housing in the front, which is cool because you don't have to pull the dryer out from the wall.....just wanted to clarify in case you had any questions. The "bullet" style thermal fuses are only the Whirlpool style and those mounted on the blower housing in the back of the dryer.
