Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm new to appliance repair and got into it by pure accident. My friends noticed that I'm real handy and never take no for an answer and advised me to start fixing appliances. I've been calling around Insurance (warranty) companies and trying to see what they're expectations are and so on. When the question about profits and such comes around, they all say that "you set the price but if you're too high, the less work you get". That's where I'm lost. I've got no one to ask as to what is the average hourly rate, what is high and what is low. If I ask the company rep, what is the average, he will most certainly lie and low ball me.

Any info would be deemed helpful and taken close to heart!

Thank a bunch!

Calculate what your cost of doing business is.

Call some other servicers in the area as a potential customer and see what they are charging.

Lighthouse is right find out what people are charging for a service call in your area and that will be your hourly rate, then build from there.

Well worth every penny, as well as the classes. They have made me look like an appliance tech rock star more than once. I would never be able to do it though without the help of my brothers here.
