This Whirlpool model WRB322DMBW00 has a defrost probles. The back panel in the freezer drawer is all frosted up.I need to know how to remove the freezer drawer and the side rails so I can remove back panel. Can you help me with how to remove these items?

Take out the top basket and you should see a white tab around the middle of both slide rails. Take a flathead screwdriver and push the tab in while grabbing the slide and pull it an inch or so. Do the same on the other side and then you can just slide the entire door and glides out.

This machine has a "Jazz" board... First step in diagnosing WHY you are having a defrost problem is to initiate a "F d" (forced defrost) and see if the defrost element begins heating...

This is a single door bottom freezer refrigerator, holding the light switch and pressing the refrigerator temp (?) buttom does nothing.

Give it another shot Jack... the tech sheet for this model off of Service Matters states:

Forced Defrost Mode: The forced defrost function is performed using the refrigerator display and keypad. Enter the Forced Defrost Mode by performing the following sequence of events:

1. Hold the refrigerator door light switch closed.

2. Press the Refrigerator Temperature DOWN /- keypad 3 times consecutively. Note: The 3 keystrokes must be consecutive and within 10 seconds.

3. Release the refrigerator door light switch.

4. The control will display F- d to confirm entry into the Forced Defrost Mode.

5. Entry is confirmed by pressing the Refrigerator Temperature DOWN /- key once more.

The unit is off (meaning the compressor and fans are off) and in the Defrost Mode.

A very common scenario is for the compressor to STAY ON when you enter forced defrost- it is a lock that the unit needs a new "jazz" board if this is the case.

Did you test the defrost function before replacing the board? The heater and thermostat need to be tested. We do that via the forced defrost function.

Yes before I replaced it I did a forced short defrost and that worked I could hear sizzling.

Did you take evaporator cover off and clear all the frost before replacing board?

You give very little detail of what you did.

If I put it into forced defrost and the compressor stays on then the board is bad. If it compressor goes off then what would I check next ?   How would I check defrost heater ?

You should remove the back wall of the freezer and steam the evaporator - sometimes, the defrost interval is not long enough to clear hard ice, so you have to give it a head start...
