Kenmore Elite model 110.92822101 Dryer Heat Problems

Recommended Posts

I have a Kenmore Elite Gas dryer, model 110.92822101. It will only heat when the ambient air temperature is cool, and then for only one heat cycle. Then it will have to cool down before it will heat again. The drum rotates, the timer works, and everything else seems normal, just no heat unless the outside air is cool. The ignitor lights up, but no gas flows. Thoughts?

There is a part mounted on the side of the burner tube called the radiant sensor- it is essentially a black box with 2 terminals on it, you can meter it for continuity, if it tests OK, then you will need to replace the gas solenoid coils mounted on the gas valve... Make sure the exhaust duct is clean as a whistle, a clean duct is job one for any dryer repair!

Part number: WP338906

Part number: WP338906 this is the radiant sensor.

Part number: 5303931775

Part number: 5303931775 gas solenoid coils are under a steel retainer, held to the valve by two phillips tip screws...

they are the prime suspect in intermittent heat situations

Hello Hiroshi,

Thanks for the answer!

I checked the radiant sensor, it has continuity so I will focus on the coils.

The lint path was not clogged, but 14 years of leftovers had accumulated so I cleaned and vacuumed it. I have no whistle to compare with, but I do have a Kazoo, and I will say that the lint path is now clean as a Kazoo. At least my Kazoo, and it's relatively new...

I will update here once I get the replacement coils installed.

You should be on the trail to dryer Nirvana, Freebiscuit!  Just be sure not to lose the "field intensifier" which is a metal sleeve that fits on the steel shaft underneath the Primary/Booster Coil (the one with three terminals).

AACK! There's a field intensifier?!?

I hope that's not like an illudium Q-36 explosive spacemodulator, I lost one of those once, and almost caused destruction of the planet. It was not pretty...

I will keep an eye out for the field intensifier and make sure it stays put!

Thanks for the info!

lol, nothing arcane, just like the Q-19 discombobulator

Extremely rare and priceless........

I never knew it was called a "field intensifier".......oh no..........I always make sure it doesn't get stuck on the old coil. I knew it was there for a purpose.
