ge wpsr3100 top loader washing machine

My GE WPSR3100 top loading washing machine is no longer pumping or spinning.  It will fill and agitate.  When on spin there is a hum but no movement.  I'm not even sure how to take this thing apart to look at it since you no longer can get the repair manuals on this site for free.

Thanks

There's probably a sock or something stuck in the pump. The front panel of the cabinet comes off for access to the pump. Use a stiff putty knife to press in on the two clips located between the top panel and the front panel on the cabinet while pulling out on the front. GE top loaders have been this way for years; I'm sure there's a video somewhere.

Free help from a total stranger ain't bad though.

Last obstructed pump I had on one of these was a head-scratcher... The object in the pump was a piece of jagged pot metal, much too large to have fallen from the customer's pocket and made it through the spin tub holes, I got a call the next week- it was doing the same thing. Upon removal of the spin tub to get a look at what was in the bottom of the washtub- I discovered that the steel spin tub was mounted a piece of garbage pot metal base- liquid soap had corroded it so badly it was coming apart in chunks.

So inspect the obstruction if you find one, and give the spin tub bottom a hard look if the obstruction is a chunk of metal!

Yep it was a sock in the drain pump.  How in the world a sock got from the basket to the pump is a mystery I don't think I will ever solve.  I'm just glad that the pump comes apart so you can actually remove items like that!  It's all cleaned up and has done many more loads over the weekend.  First real problem I've ever had with this machine and it's 16+ years old.  Thought for sure I was going to need a new one.

An overload or bouyant pillow/stuffed animal/jogging pants with an air bubble will lift the garments close enough to the lip for them to slip between the spin and wash tubs...
