KitchenAid-model# ksrd25fkwh03. I'm showing a thermostat part #from KitchenAid as #2161282. Also if you could help clear up my trouble shooting between a run capacitor switch or the temp. control thermostat. I have no frost on evaporator coils and no heat from condenser coils- all fans, lights and switches working. Moving temp control slides up and down produces no"clicks" or noise indicating compressor activation. I'm leaning toward thermostat replacement, but not sure. Thank You, Steve

You said both fans running?

condenser fan?

this is the correct cold control, however usually your condenser fan gets no power along with compressor.

I think you may need to troubleshoot your compressor and start device since it sounds like there is power down there.

Yes both fans, the evaporator fan and condenser fan.

have you verified if compressor is running?

Well, I don't feel any temperatures from the condenser, or evaporator coils. The fans just keep running, when I slide the temperature controls from cold to colder I don't hear any change. When I shut the fridge off, then turn it back on all I hear is the fans turning on. I can physically feel the air moving from under the fridge, and I removed the cover inside freezer and can see the fan running there.

It sounds like the compressor is not running. Check out this video from Samurai:

You need to see if the compressor is running and/or getting power. Go to the back of the unit and remove machine compartment pane and find the compressor. Do you feel it vibrating? Is it warm? You can unplug the unit and plug it back in and see if you feel or hear anything from the compressor. You really need a multi meter or at least a beeper pen to see if any power is going to the compressor when the fan next to it is running. If you do have power but no compress the you will need a start device.Part number: 8201786

Beeper Pen? Interesting, I always called it "the magic wand." That is a Hall Effect Indicator for you grasshoppers out there in appliance land...

My Magic Wand in fact does indicate power to the start relay device. The compressor is not making any vibrations or producing any warmth. So I have located the start relay device with part #supplied 20 minutes from humble abode, should I send trusty servant to fetch said device? Do not let her know I referred to her as servant, I'm not in mood for punishment! My magic Wand is overloaded as it is.

Extremely grateful for footstep lessons in appliance world,

Thanks Ed for the direction, this is a great site and I will let other tormented friends know of it. I should have the time this weekend to complete this task, I will let you know the outcome.

Thanks Again, Woody

If you read his reply from Thursday around 3:45 Pacific Time, you'll see that the fans are running but compressor isn't.

How can the cold control be bad, if the compressor is getting power to it, yet not running?

The only thing that would make this more entertaining would be live video! Brew Hobby Tech, what is your home brew? I'm thinking white lighting, keep up the good work stick to your guns or lavations'...hey...what ever it might be! I'm enjoying some cold Atticus by Strand Brewery, being highly entertained on a Friday night. Thank You!!

Success !! Thank you all !! The freezer is freezing and the refrigerator is a chilling. The compressor start device was the culprit, not to hard to replace. I learned quite a bit about the cooling process of the refrigerator along the way! Even enjoyed the comic relief of BrewHobbyTech (I hope it was in fun, and not that the guy is off his meds). One more question, how often does this device fail? The one I pulled out was not factory-made in China, the one I replaced it with was also manufactured in China.

Many Thanks,

  Woody

Some people go thru the entire life of the appliance and never need one others may need one every time a major storm hits. Your best bet is to keep the condensor coils clean so the unit does not run excessively hot or long and use a surge protector like supco Part number: App120

Thank you again, hopefully I will not need another. If I do I now know what to do and, the process of checks. My condenser fan might be a little slow, so I'm thinking I should swap that out and that might get me some extra time with this frige.

In my experience they average 4 - 5 years
