Jenn Air JED8430ADB electric cooktop burner too hot

Greetings,

I have a Jenn Air JED8430ADB cooktop - one of those electric deals, with the glass/ceramic top.   I recently replaced the glass top, and now unfortunately one of the burners is malfunctioning - kind of.  It's the right front burner, which is the dual inside/outside burner (can either use small inside burner, or both inside and outside for a larger pan).  

It generally works OK, but seems to be spotty.   It seems to not malfunction when I test it (with a pan full of water), but often does when my wife uses it.  It's not her fault though I swear!  It will get really super hot, even when it's only on middle heat setting 5 or 7, to the point where the glass itself glows orange.

Has anyone else seen this? 

I'm trying to figure out if it's a switch issue, a limiter issue, or an issue with the element itself.  Would hate to replace/fix the wrong thing.   Is there an easy way to test to see what's wrong - e.g. with voltmeter or the the like?

Probley will be your switch, MOST of the time .

Just to follow up - indeed that's what it was.  Replaced the switch and it was good.

Unfortunately in the meantime - the excess heat from the burner cracked the top - like really cracked it severely, such that I had to replace it.  So it went from a $40 repair to a $300 repair.  Sigh.  Live and learn.   Perhaps this post can serve as a warning to others.
