Yes, sir, that is correct and also the bimetal.

Is this the board that controls the difrost cycle ?????

Please explain??

Thank you very much.

Posted

Yes it's called Genesis Control it controls the cycling of the compressor, condenser fan motor, damper motor, and evaporator fan motor, as well as the defrost cycle. The door alarms are also part of this control.

You can try to force defrost. This will prove the heater and bimetal are good if it heats up.

Manual Defrost

Activation PressandholdFreezerTemperatureUP (WARMER) Key while pressing the fresh food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds.

Deactivation
Press and hold Freezer Temperature UP (WARMER) Key while pressing the fresh food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds.

Function
Initiates a defrost cycle.

All other functions are disabled including alarm(s) enabling

Yes sir. From the manual:

Electronic Control

The Control is mounted on the left (as shown in Figure 4) and it controls the cycling of the compressor, condenser fan motor, damper motor, and evaporator fan motor, as well as the defrost cycle. The door alarms are also part of this control. (See figure 4.) The freezer and food compartment thermistor plug into the back of the control at the top, and the main electrical connector is plugged in at the bottom left corner of the control. To remove the control from the housing, disconnect the two thermistors from the top of the control and disconnect the lower wiring harness. Push the front of the control box forward to clear the display windows and slide the control straight up and out of the housing. Reinstall in reverse order.

would love to see that manual..

Allheights, I would also like to see the manual Ed is getting that from.

The display/User Interface referenced above has nothing to do with defrost, it only inputs & displays temps and has the reed switch that magnet on door activates to turn display off when door is closed.

The main control board that ED referenced above and Mjorrin replaced is the board that is located on the left behind kickplate under freezer compartment and it controls all functions of this unit.

I don't know if this system is called a Genesis control that ED referred to, "Yes it's called Genesis Control", but there is another one that has a similar looking user interface/temp display that also has other relays and controls that does control defrost, (that may be the Genesis Control that ED is thinking of).

Posted

Yes, so sorry if I had wrong manual. Did not know there was two genesis controls. How do you tell the difference?

this was manual I was referencing

ed that manual and those parts don't seem to match..my search for clarity continues..

b.a.r.. see in one of your older post that u jumped the adc on main power board of one of these fridges nor defrosting..did that hold?? that would solve my issue..

Posted

I'd like to know what service manual pertains to your model!!!

Posted

Yes, Allheights, after putting the jumper on the pins for non-ADC I have never heard back from them again except for a totally different problem, (If I remember correctly the condenser fan came off of fan motor - replaced fan blade, asked them about anymore defrost problems since and they said it never was a problem again.  I think it was at least a year or more later).

Posted (edited)

Even after 31 years of this I don't know hardly any of those code names they call each system - It has never really been a problem for me.

I know the Whirlpool refrigerator JAZZ boards, Whirlpool dishwasher VOYAGER platform, Whirlpool dishwasher GWS - Global Wash System and Whirlpool VMW - Vertical Modular Washer.

I don't know if both of those Frigidaire refrig systems are named GENESIS or not, maybe I and II.  The one you were thinking of doesn't have the control board under the freezer compartment and the control is all contained in a plastic module in the control area where the one that is being referenced here the UI/Display board removes from the housing console of the refrig as just the bare board as shown above, (no relays that would in any way be able to control or carry the load of the compressor, defrost heater or any fans).

genesis is just one type of control set-up... there are tons: the iceland, raptor, hercules, niagara... generally just in-house terms used by the manufacturers to limit how many numbers they have to blurt at each other during design discussions.

I could not care less about the naming..I just am looking for some information as to their abilities..have read contradicting post about what actually is control of fridge functions..

Posted

The main board under the freezer compartment contains the ADC and definitely controls defrost...

The way to force defrost on this model is to hold freezer "up" key, then press fresh food "down" key five times within 6 seconds.

Heater should be 20-40 ohms.

Posted

that's how I read diagram too..my confusion came from a thread with. similar model saying ui controlled most actions..defrost ,run time, ect..im following another company who "replaced main board" they were told w same symptoms returning weeks later..

Posted

I screwed up the forced defrost instructions though... it is press and hold fresh food "up" and "down" together for 6 seconds. This is a confusing post for me too, apparently.

And that's my fault.

My apologies.
