So I have an LG 22CF fridge from about 2009. The icemaker has been intermittently failing to produce ice for a while. I took out the solenoid and connected it directly into 120VAC and it seemed to work fine. I know there's water to it, and I checked the contacts with it connected, and both leads register 120VAC. Now I know there should be a voltage drop across it, but it would be small since it's only probably a few ohms. At any rate, if there's voltage to it, it should be opening, right? Why would it seem to work outside the fridge, but not when hooked up? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Icemakers are heavily dependent on the temperature around them, so what is the temperature aound the icemaker unit?

Thanks for the response. I took out the solenoid, checked it, then took out the icemaker itself, disassembled what I could, put everything back together and it's now working. But I wish I had just tried it after messing with the solenoid to see if that was the problem.
