I have a Frigidaire side by side refrigerator I am working on model: FFHS2311LB. It was after a storm that I got the call about there refrigerator slowly defrosting. I got to the job and noticed the fan was not operating. I replaced it with a used fan i had on hand but still did not come on.

whats the model number?

is it getting electricity?

is everything else working?

Perhaps the door switch needs to be closed to run the evap fan?

Posted

model is a FFHS2311LB.

It does have electricity running to it.

everything works properly.

It Is freezing, the fan motor just wont come on

i tried the door switch as well and still nothing

if you have 120VAC agt the fan and it wont come on the fan is bad. try a diff fan or try hooking your new fan to an outlet

If you meter J1-6 pin on the control board to ground it should read 120VAC or so, like Smee said... Do you have a meter Chapo?

Have you tried disconnecting and re-connecting the white molex plug shown in this picture to be sure there is a good make, they can get moisture in them...

i ordered a brand new fan for it,

i do have a meter and it did read 120vac to the fan

and i did unplug the harness and plug it back in and still wouldn't come on.

so if it didn't read 120vac to the fan it would be the main control board? I had figured it would be the control board, is there a diagnostics mode on this refrigerator so i could test all other component?

Posted

Yes, if there is no voltage to the evap fan during a cooling mode, the board would be the culprit.

Well, install that there fan you ordered, and if it doesn't work as expected give a holler and I will explain the service mode,  it would be an awful long typing session. There should be a tech sheet hidden on the unit with the service mode instructions on it...

ok, hopefully i can find the service mode instructions, i have a strong feeling the fan is not to blame although the other fan motor smelled like smoke. thank yall so much ill keep you posted.

Use your meter on ohm's resistance and see if the motor winding gives you a reading, just put it to the two terminals and if it reads OL it is open and that is why it is "dead."

The fan still did not come on.

You have voltage? You have windings intact?

Posted

There was voltage going to the fan, I tried multiple fans on it and still nothing.

Test across the motor terminals with the fan(s) hooked up... still 120VAC? seems like it is 'dropping out' under load...

You could try using another fan.I had a similar problem with a Kenmore fridge but it was already too old to have it repaired so I send it off to a nearby storage unit  so that I could figure out what to do with it later.
