Kenmore washer rinse cycle problem - Model 110.29822801

I have a Kenmore washing machine (Model # 110.29822801) that is having a problem with the rinse cycle. After the wash is done, the clothes are still wet. I suspected a pump issue, but that checked out fine. I paid closer attention and found that after the final spin cycle, water started coming for another rinse. The machine has a "2nd Rinse" option, which is controlled by a knob on the control panel. It is always on "one rinse". The regular cycle shows wash, rinse, spin, then "off", followed by 2nd rinse, and then a final spin, and off again. Normally it stops at the first "off", but now it appears that it continues into the 2nd rinse cycle for a little bit, and then shuts off. There's no water to speak of in the tub, but the clothes are all wet and must be spun out in order to put them in the dryer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

It's possible the clutch is worn down. Hard to explain to you what kind of torque to look for over a message board.... But turn and set the dial to a spin position, close the lid switch with a butter knife or something. Then pull the knob with the lid open and feel the torque holding it back with your other hand as it get's going in spin. You can hold it back but it should be biting at you a little any dang way wanting to spin and get going. If it feels weak, bad clutch. The gear case would have to be pulled to replace it.

No worries on the dial indicator. You know where your at.

This is usually a timer or load sensing switch in the console. It should not spray any water in after going through the spin cycle

A load sensing switch? Nah. I think he has an old school direct drive Whirlpool washer.

Unless I'm mistaken.

Hey Timboroni I most certainly did tell you wrong though. The console will need to be flipped back and the lid switch by passed with a jumper wire to test the spin basket torque by hand. Do this at your own risk now. Be careful with that electricity.

I ran into this again just yesterday, the timer works till the hesitation to kick the transmission into spin, then shuts off except for the spray rinse . Wet clothes at the end.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll see if I can do the "clutch test".

As far as the timer being the issue, I'm guessing that replacing the timer will do the trick?

Thanks again!

I see this on the Sears/Kenmore site:

WPW10187167

Washer Timer Part WPW10187167

Is there a difference?

Thanks.

YES, there is a difference and one will most likely fix your problem and the other won't!!!!

The part Captain Dunsel linked to and thinks is bad is the ATC/Load level (Combo Auto-Temp-Control / Load Level) control.
It is common for this part to fail in a manner that will cause water to come into the washer after the load is completely done and finished spinning, (thus making the clothes wet again like you are experiencing - you will have to take note of when the water comes in re-wetting the clothes which you have done - I don't think it is actually going into the second rinse on the timer like you think it maybe doing).

I as well suspect the above ATC/Load Level Control is the problem also from your description of your problem.

The part you are referencing is the Main Timer that controls most all main functions and sequence of operations.

Thanks for the clarification! I'll reply back with the outcome.

Sorry for the delayed response. The new ATC/Load level switch worked like a charm - no more wet clothes!

Thanks everyone for your assistance! Beer money on the way!!  :D
