Kitchenaid kscs25fjss01 fridge warm - damper?

Recommended Posts

My Kitchenaid kscs25fjss01 fridge is warm and I've determined that the damper gets closed and doesn't open.

How can I diagnose if it's the damper unit (which whirlpool claims isn't made any more - but https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Damper-Control-Assembly/WP2216112/907713 looks like it may be the same thing, or close enough that I could scavenge/frankenstein it?) or the control board?

I have a multimeter and am reasonably capable... help please?

For the moment, I manually opened the damper and have unplugged it so that I can have cold coming in to the fridge...

If you opened the damper manually and plugged it back in and it closes and doesn't open again the damper is your problem.

The back end of the damper door slide breaks so the cam that opens and closes the damper slide can only push the damper to the the fully closed position but when the cam turns to the opposite side, 180 degrees from closed, it has nothing to pull against to slide the damper back to the open position.

To keep your refrigerator somewhat working OK you can do exactly what you did, slide the damper slide door about to the half-open/half-closed position and leave the damper motor connector unplugged and put it all back together tell you get the part.
