GE microwave JEM31SF01 acting erratically

Recommended Posts

We have a GE microwave (JEM31SF01) that started acting erratically this weekend. It would start and turntable would turn, but food would not heat up. Then suddenly the microwave would stop running without the beep that would normally signal the end. The display would then flash all different characters and light inside oven would flash rapidly. If I clear display by hitting stop/clear, I can get the clock to work. And I can get oven to start, but it then repeats the above actions. I'm doubtful it is the control board. Could it be one of the door switches? Thanks Dave

not the switches.. the random charters on the display tell me the board is trying to reboot

one of the power supply's on the board are going bad plus all the other issue lean to a board failure.

Thanks, Learny. I opened up the microwave and pushed the ribbon cable into the board a little tighter. So far, I have been able to run it for several minutes with no issue. Could that have been it?

maybe, but the loose ribbon cable would not usually cause all the gremlins your having.

you touched it and fixed it.

the board may have a bad connection or a bad cap on it. in the process of wiggling it you made it work again

run it and see what happens.

since this is your unit you wont get a phone call about your bad repair... unless the wife....
