Hi, I have a GE fridge which has a working freezer but no obvious power inside the fridge. The temperature control dials are dark, lights do not work and no cooling. Again, freezer seems to be working properly. I am selling this home and do not want to buy a new fridge right now but do not know how costly something like this would be to repair. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Bubba

To start we need a model number, we are in the dark also with out it.

I see what you did there ;)

I can't believe I didn't give the model number!

The fridge is cool but not cold.

No lights to temp control dials

No interior lights.

No fan can be heard running.

Freeze is working perfectly.

Thanks again for any help, sorry about the lack of info in the first post.

Sounds like a main board and evap fan motor

Thanks,

Do these two items frequently fail simultaneously?

Should I plan on replacing both or should I do one first?

A bad fan can take out the main board. That vintage often has the bad temperature sensors, that get changed as a matter of course. The repair is expensive but much less than a new fridge.

Normally if a fan takes out the board you will see a heat damaged resistor on the board. If I did not see a burned resistor I would change the board and test the fans with a 9 volt battery or   watch the fans after repair. If they work great. If one is not spinning right then I would unplug the unit until I could replace the fan.
