GLTR1670AS0 (Frigidaire/Electrolux Washer) Door Gasket Twister

Recommended Posts

Our washer stopped abruptly mid cycle. The door gasket is twisted hard. The replacement video for door gadgets shows a retaining ring spring thing around the outside of the rubber. Ours doesn't have one that I can see, it looks glued perhaps.  Am I just not prying enough?  If I can rep,ace this, do Zi re-glue it?

Check out the six o'clock position. You should find a spring hiding under the gasket. Start from there.

On the video I see the retainer wire immediately visible. It isn't visible on my washer.  But I did wonder if it might be easy to see why the rubber was all twisted, and so I pulled off the bottom access panel and noticed that a mounting strut thing didn't look quite right.

Photos: twisted boot, no wire I can see, busted support.

Looks like you need new shocks, no need to take off door boot but if you have to your door boot was glued on and when removed you can use adhesive to put it back on

This is a better video if you need to replace the door boot.Part number: 5303937187

That's the old style door boot, (Black not Gray), that is glued to the front.  Super glue works good to reattach.

I believe you have more problems then just that broke strut, as twisted as the boot looks, I think you may have broke an upper tub hanger spring which broke the shock/strut when it dropped down on it.

Take the top cover off and inspect both upper springs and their mounting points at the top of the cabinet and on the outer tub.

Yes, you're right. I'd taken off the top yesterday to look around, and the right side spring was broken.

P.S. I ordered a shocks kit, and two springs (figured I'd replace the old but unbroken one also).  I'm hoping the rubber untwists correctly, although it doesn't feel even around the inner lip.  As far as the order of replacing springs and shocks, any thoughts on which to do first?  Thanks.

HELP!

Just one more bit, please.  I replaced the broken right side shock, and the broken right side spring. While I was at it, I replaced the left side ones also.  To get a bit of a view of the right side upper shock mount, I had unclamped the clamp in this photo.  That immediately resulted in a problem, one of a number in this repair, but I waded through it and now almost everything is back in its place. Except this hose connection.  I'm not sure how to reconnect it.  I have the rigid white part down inside the flexible black part, but I can't seem to wriggle the black part up over one of the ridges on the white part.  I was thinking I needed to do that, and then put the  green clamp so it clamps down up above the ridge.  Is that true, or will just sliding the smooth part of the white tube into the black tube where it is now and clamping down on that section work?  Thanks!

You need to move the green metal hose clamp onto the white plastic hose side, push the plastic end into the black rubber receiver until it "bottoms out," then move the green hose clamp back to where the indents show you it was originally...
