I have a whirlpool duet dryer WGD8300SW1 and when it runs, the drum sound and there is a loud screech. How to determine if it is the belt or the 2 rollers? Thanks

Usually it ends up being the idler pulley that keeps your belt tight. Belts very seldom make noise. You can buy a rebuild kit with the rollers, idler, and belt for about $50 and cover all bases :)

Thank you. When I had a part, I did some further troubleshooting..

I spun the drum by hand and you could hear the noise.

I took the drum off the rollers and the no noise.

I took off the belt, put drum back on the rollers and no noise.

Is it best to replace the belt and pulley at the same time to be safe?

Only replace the belt if it is dry-rotted or has a break in the nylon backing (technically), if it looks like the belt took a beating you might as well install the new one while you have it open.

The kit listed above is handy and gets you a pile of parts for a good price, but I have noticed that just replacing the wheel on this particular model, often does not bring the permanent joy of dryer Nirvana... the shaft may be abraded and just ruin the new wheel, but it is a feeling that the original brackets they put on these were no good because of how often they fail..    .Part number: W10837240

Part number: W10837240 I always replace the whole idler to avoid a "callback," but your machine, your call.
