Maytag French Door Fridge--Jazz Board issue?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Tried to find info on this by searching the forums, but no luck so far....I have a french door (bottom freezer) stainless Maytag fridge, about 5 years old which has recently started acting up in the following way:

The display on the control board (which I understand now to be the "jazz board") and which has separate digital controls for the freezer and fridge (normally shows values from 1-7) will sporadically just change to "-" and "-" instead of digits.   When this happens, the fridge stops running or cooling, even though the lights still work fine...  I have found that I can "reset" or kick it back into life by pushing the door light button closed and THEN pressing the up button on the freezer.   Pressing the temp buttons without doing it this way seems to have no effect whatsoever.

It seems to run fine after that for up to 2 days before I open the door again to find the "-" of death.....

My question is:  does this symptom mean  I should just replace the Jazz Board, or could there be something else going on (like blockage of vents somewhere) causing this strange symptom

Any inputs/thoughts welcome!!!

It is best to include your complete model number with topics, in case there is something special about the model in question...

Yes. Replace the "Jazz" board and your problems will be gone... Double blank display is not an error code other than that it means the control is spiraling toward complete failure. (in my experience)

Sorry, model number is MFF2258VEM5 ... but from my research I guess it's one of MANY models that use this same Jazz board...I guess I can order a replacement for when it stops working altogether... was just wanting to make sure there's nothing else I should check first... sounds like these boards go out quite a lot?

What if it stops working while you are gone for a day or two?

May want to reconsider and get it replaced ASAP.

Hate to see frozen food wasted.
