Amana AGR5844VDS oven keeps turning off

Recommended Posts

Helping out a friend, hopefully. Amana AGR5844VDS gas oven. He says they turn it on, to bake, or whatever....set it to temperature, and it just shuts off after 10 minutes or so, and then they have to reset it, and it does the same thing.

Now he did tell me that they used it as a heater for a bit, as their old furnace died, and they're waiting on their landlord to resolve that. Don't know how much or how long he used it as a heater, but he thinks that leaving it on the door open like that, and t essentially never getting to temperature, burned something out. Seems like a logical theory to me, but I have no idea, and told him I'd ask here, to try and help him. Hoping it's a "plug and play" replacement part.

As always.....thanks in advance! :)

Does the oven control (clock) flicker odd characters and then go blank (dead)?

I texted him and asked him. I will post back when he responds.

And thank you!

I would wonder if the gas ever fired up and if the ignitor clicked and sparked. The DSI boards are a pretty common failure on thoes ranges. Part number: WPW10331686

Check the continuity across the terminals on the gas distribution valve (three-way continuity), there is also a a small tab on the valve that can be accidentally flipped to "off." ... if any of those terminal combinations show "open" nothing will work...

Would this fail after being on for 10 minutes as OP described?

as they are getting older, I suspect the solenoids could fail the same way a gas coil does... Intermittently. Probably not the case, but anyone working on one of these needs to know what to do with it I figure.

He said no, nothing like that. He said the heat will just go off, and it will still be displaying whatever temperature it was set at.They'll cancel, start again, and it will light up again, and then go off again in about 10 minutes or so.

He said it never acted like this before they started using it as a temporary heater, if that helps, or means anything.

Is it possible the oven is up to temperature when it turns off? Does it fail to re-light itself by double clicking three times?

I'm not sure, but I will ask him. I know he's had this oven for a while, so I'm assuming he knows it well. He said everything was fine until they started using it as a temporary heater, until the landlord fixes their heater.
