Old Whirlpool Dryer LE5795XPW0 - heater box removal

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the heater coil in the above dryer and am having trouble removing the heater box/tube. It needs to be angled up a bit to allow the old coil to slide out. I've removed the small strap at the top and the screw near the bottom that faces front. It appears that the box should pull out at the top to allow the bottom of the box to be pushed up to clear 2 retaining tabs at the bottom. I see nothing else attaching the box but it is still firmly attached. Does it just require some force to pull the top out? It's all I can see left to do but I don't want to force something when I should be doing something else.

If the top mounting strap has been removed...

Pull the Heater Case away from the bulkhead...near the top/upper section.

Once the case is loose...lift upward to clear the two mounting tabs/hooks at the bottom.

After replacing the element...re-install the Heater Case.

The 5/16 screw for the mounting strap at the top of the case...can be tightened using a 1/4 inch socket extension and ratchet or nutdriver tool.

There's a small hole at the rear of the dryer...directly opposite the 5/16 screw. It may be covered/obscured by a wiring schematic label. If you use your finger...and apply pressure on the wiring schematic label...you'll find the hole...punch it through for easier access to the 5/16 screw.

Thank you, John. It just needed some force. I appreciate the reply.
