Whirlpool W10307054A - freezer not cold.. picture included

Hi,

I have a whirlpool W10307054A and my freezer stop getting cold enough to freeze water.  It started to take longer to make ice and slowly became worse.  The ice started to become hollow, then now won't freeze at all.  The fridge is cool and seem ok, but the freezer is about as cool as the fridge.  I took some panels out and noticed that there was a block of frozen ice around the area I circled in the picture... I cleared the ice, and was hoping that fixed the problem, but over time, that same area started to form ice again, the my freezer was not getting any cooler..

Any ideas?

You most likely have a sealed system issue, will be a pricey repair by a service company

More than likely clogged evaporator drain line.

New style has been designed for your unit.

Part number: W10619951

Part number: W10619951

you'll need to clear all ice and then add the new drain tube.

Oops sorry your photo finally opened.

I agree with abaesemann.

Yes, no doubt, refrigerant has leaked out!

Thanks for the quick responses.  This makes sense... When it first started to occur, the fridge had a weird smell... I assume that was the refrigerant??  This fridge was bought used, and I think the place that sold it gave us a frankenstein rebuilt unit.  Should I just get a new one, or is it worth fixing?  I don't know exactly how much pricey means, but due to a few other issues, I am leaning towards a new fridge.

Very good idea! The price in my area would be $800 to $1000
