replacing vintage infinite heat switches

Hi, I own a vintage stove and I noticed that the infinite heat switch for older ranges start at "off" and then go to "high" then the setting drops the temp.  If I replace a faulty one with a new one, I'm concerned the modern ones aren't in the order as the vintage and it won't work properly.  

 

Suggestions?

With the switch in the "off" position...which direction must you rotate the knob to "hi" ?

Clockwise or counterclockwise?

Brand name?

Model/Serial number?

You rotate the knob clockwise to hi from off.

It's a 1956 Frigidaire RV-92

It's the fold out model.  As a safety feature, when you fold the burners up and out of the way it cuts off the circuit to the unit.

A rare configuration. Made for use...I would think...in a recreational vehicle.

If this was a service call...I would remove the knob...to examine the mounting style...my memory is a little rusty but I seem to remember that these burner switches are standard in that 2 screws are used to attach the burner switch to the console.

If so...there's a manufacturer that has long provided universal burner switches to fit a huge variety/types made over the years.

Robertshaw 5500-202

Older burner switches are usually not PUSH-TO-TURN types. If your switch can be rotated/turned in either direction without having to push the knob...then the 5500-202 may work.

If they are push to turn...then use the Robertshaw 5500-200.

These burner switches contain mounting adapters...to allow installation on practically all brands of ranges.

There is also an adapter set for allowing the installation/use of the original knob.

The only concern that I have...is that older Frigidaire ranges used solid wiring (not strand wires). If you are not familiar with working around this...it may be safer to have a pro tackle this repair/replacement.

Lastly...if you are concerned about the replacement switch not matching the other in heat range/settings (low through high). Replacing both switches solves that problem. They'll match.

Since the units can be picked up I'll most probably take it to the local appliance repair guy to give it a once-over.  I'm definitely having an electrician hook it up since he'll need to put in two 15-20 amp/240 circuits.  I'm running them separate from the 50 amp stove circuit.
