There is a burnt wire to the element in my flat top stove.  Just wondering if anyone knows what type of solder and soldering gun/ torch I should you.  Any advice will be helpful.

Thanks

You shouldn't use solder at all. Strip the wire back and crimp a new terminal on it. If there is not enough slack, get a length of range wire, of matching guage, and wire-nut it to the old piece with a ceramic wire-nut (ceramic can withstand any temperature the stove top can create). Be sure you strip everything back until you have shiny, new wire and burnish the terminal on the element if it is blackened or looking damaged- or you will have a repeat of the first failure...

Hi Hiroshi

I would put on a new terminal except that the male end on the element is partially burnt off and gone.  That is why I was hoping to Solder it.

Thanks

Solder melts at less than 400 degress F, so it wouldn't be my first choice, as a big cauldron put on to boil for an extended period can deflect a lot of heat and possibly melt the solder...

I would spring for a new element.
