I have a parishioner, a single mother, who asked me to help her with her faulty Maytag clothes washer. When the washer begins to fill with cold water it makes a loud thump and vibrates heavily. If you turn off the cold water valve while this is happening, or when the water stops running, the thumping noise and vibration stop. Otherwise, the washer seems to work. Any help?

Need to check water pressure, make sure it is between 20-80 psi, any higher you need a pressure reducing valve for the house.

Flood Check type fill hoses...installed backwards...can make a pronounced jackhammer noise during fill.
