MAYTAG WASHER MAV6000AWW (Serial #:10495862WY)- gets stuck at the spin cycle and won't spin out. I tried to run a cycle with no load and it seems to go through the cycle OK but it doesn't work when clothes are loaded.  One thing I noticed when running a cycle with no load....I opened the lid during the spin cycle, waited for the drum to stop turning, and then closed the lid to restart the spin.  As soon as the lid closes, a sort of high pitched noise starts (not a squeal or screech though) and then eases down in tone.  It reminds me of the sound a car makes when you downshift...high pitched/high rpm sound that eases to nothing as you slow down.   What do you think needs repaired/replaced?  Thanks!

Check your pump without the belt on it for play in the shaft, but sounds more like your thrust bearing is going out.

I've got a belt on order and I'll check the pump shaft as you suggested.  Thanks!

The "high pitched noise" is normal on these- it is usually the sound of the transmission and the motor RPM slowly coming to matched speed...
