Bosch Stove not "Convection-ing!"

Hello Fellow Sensei's this young grasshopper has been studying the forums and believe he may have found the issue. my Bosch Stove which loves to break down every now and then seems to not want to "convection" (Fan does not turn on)

 

the oven gets up to temperature, the display shows that cool fan spinning around, however the fan itself does not spin. 

i am going to go on a limb and say that the fan motor needs to be replaced (because lets face it, what other reason could it be?) 

can you guys think of any other reasons besides the fan motor going? 

also a link to the actual "fan motor" in repair clinic would be fantastic. i seem to have found  motor, but I think its for the exhaust which I think may be the wrong one at this link

Did you check to see if the fan gets power? It could be any number of things. The control board may not be sending power or the wiring may be at fault. Try to  "flick" the motor to start it if it is getting power. If it continues to spin then then the motor is definitely faulty.

Are you checking this by opening the oven door, a lot of convection fans stop when the oven door opens, visibly check with oven door closed and use oven light or flashlight.

If not turning then make sure it is free and not seized, if free then check for voltage at fan motor.

Oven control "power board" has 2 yellow wires coming off of the X23 connector- it should meter 120VAC during a convection cycle. You can also test the motor windings for an open circuit...(if you're testing for voltage at the fan)  Hopefully, just the motor is bad because Bosch has a service bulletin about the controls on this model:

EXPLANATION This Service Bulletin is to alert the field that special care must be taken when replacing either a control board or a power board in all Bosch or Siemens FSRs (FREE STANDING RANGES)  having a Service Index Level of 01. A new control board, electric power board, and gas power board are being introduced in the FSR. All service calls on a Bosch or Siemens FSR with the 01 Service Index Level involving replacement of either a control board or power board will require that BOTH boards be replaced. In other words, if the service call determines that the control board be replaced, the power board will need to be replaced also. If the service call determines that the power board be replaced, the control board will need to be replaced also. A kit has been produced to aid you.

IDENTIFICATION:  All FSRs manufactured BEFORE May 2005 will have a Service Index Level of 01 (for example, HES232/01). All FSRs manufactured AFTER May 2005 will have a Service Index Level of 02. This Service Bulletin is for FSRs with Service Index Level 01 only. The Service Index is on the model data label located on the frame of the unit and can be viewed by opening the storage/warming drawer.

ORDER INFORMATION:  Depending on the model being serviced see the table for the correct KIT number.
