NEED service manual for whirlpool gas dryer, WGD8800YC0.

specifically, how to open it up for servicing. I see the top is hinged in back to swing up but cannot see how to unlatch it in the front

I didn't find a service manual 

Not sure what problem you are having but there is a service bulletin for no heat.

There are spring clips in the front approximately where the lid turns in toward the door, use your putty knife to press one side tab back, ( but don't lift it too far or it will make the other side impossible to release) then poke a flat tip screw driver into the released side seam gap you made to keep it from popping back together, then repeat on the other side's clip... they are spaced symmetrically.
