GE Dishwasher GLD6500, detergent tray doen't open

Recommended Posts

Our dishwasher is 10 years old, but the first owner rarely used it, and we don't use it all that much; so it is younger than 10 years.

The door that holds the detergent didn't open yesterday.  We reran it, but it still didn't open.  This has happened twice before, and it eventually started working again.  One of these times, perhaps now, it won't start working again.

Anything to be done?  Thank you

You can remove it and try cleaning it, also inspect the wax motor on the back and make sure nothing is caught up in there (unlikely).

Other than this,  you can replace the dispenser, it's not very expensive on this model.

Sometimes a cookie sheet will block door from opening. Double check how dishes are loaded keep large things away from detergent door side.

How do I remove it?  It looks like there are 8 screws around the sides and top of the door.  Do I undo them to take the front cover off and access it from the front, or something else?

You have to take the front panel off, and then you will have access to the back of the dispenser.

I worked on one where a customer had put liquid detergent in the rinse aid reservoir, jammed the whole dispenser up eventually. I took it out and flushed out the caked up goo until it worked again
