Maytag Washer - Model # SAV4655EWW - Water Mixing Problem

Recommended Posts

I have a Maytag Washer - Model # SAV4655EWW - that appears to have a water mixing problem. When the water temperature is set to COLD, you get cold water, and when the water temp is set to WARM you get warm water. The problem is when you set the temp to HOT, you get hot water for a few seconds, then it goes to warm for a few seconds, then it goes back to hot, then warm again, and so on.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

If the water valve has a *thermistor* (temperature sensor)...this will be normal.

Temperature regulated fill.

Well, whadaya know...

From the user manual:

"Automatic Temperature Control (select models) provides the optimal wash water temperature for cleaning. To save energy, this washer will regulate wash water temperatures by mixing hot and cold water to reach the proper water temperature."

There was also this:

"May add hot water to the incoming cold water as the washer fills. This ATC Cold/Cold assures that the water will be warm enough to properly activate detergent."

Now, before anyone says "Dummy! Why didn't you read the manual to begin with!", we bought this washer second-hand. It didn't come with a manual, so we just hooked it up like any other washer. While running it through its paces we found this odd bit of pulsing hot & cold water. I just assumed (yeah, I know) that there was a problem.

Thanks!  Beer money on the way!!

I am just amazed to hear of a sav style maytag still running .  That was the last machine maytag made before whirlpool bought them out ...  very prone to tub seal failure if the serial # starts with 15 or less .    If it makes a loud roaring noise in spin get your money back if you can.

Thanks for the heads-up.

The serial # is 101449...

We only paid $50 for it, so if it lasts us a couple of years we'll have gotten our money's worth.
