We have a GE ZDWC240NABS wine cooler, under counter model, bought new in 2006

the other day I noticed it was running longer than usual, however it is not cooling, I unplugged

the unit allowed it to cool and plugged back in and it starts running but still no cooling.

Would like to know what to look for, and what common faults for DIY repair vs

just throwing parts at the fridge, they are not inexpensive so if we can come up

with a repair solution it would be fantastic.

I would start by making sure the compressor and the condenser fan are running. If not check for power to what ever is not running. If they are both not running I would suspect the cold control. If they are running and still not cooling then you have a sealed system failure and it's time to shop for a new one.

At $1900 a unit new unless a compressor is $1000 why wouldn't it be an option to repair

I see the compressors are $500 online, just need a tech to install it, providing it's not

a sensor or something fixable.  Going to pull it out of the cabinet and see what's going on.

Sealed system repair in my neck of the woods could run about a thousand dollars for a tech that really knows what he's doing. I did a quick google search and saw them for around $1200.00 but they may not be as fancy as yours.

if it comes to that I'll look into the cost of repair vs replace either way

we may have to just drink the wine and put in a regular cabinet!
