Samsung dryer display is working. Selected time dry, pressed start button and display says drying. (Also tried other cycles with same problem) Dryer is not spinning, and is not making any noises. No clicks, hums, nothing. No blowing noises. Drum will turn but not uneven or wobbly. Seems a little easier to turn than usual. Thinking it may be the belt, but wouldn't I hear the motor running if the belt is broken? Any ideas? Thanks

Belt.

A switch on the motor mount/idler pulley "opens" when the belt breaks or slips off motor pulley.

Would you recommend changing the belt myself? Or is it a complicated job best performed by a repairman?

So it would have stopped the motor and heating element as soon as the belt broke? Just making sure I wouldn't need to replace other parts too & that it didn't damage other parts because the drum stopped turning but everything else was running.

If the motor is not spinning, there will be no heat- if the belt is broken, the motor will not spin... it is a design feature that keeps machines form burning your house down! If the machine is not very old, there would likely be another part, the idler pulley perhaps, that failed and "took out" the belt.

The only way to know is to disassemble and investigate... with the machine unplugged, of course.
